J Cole's Live Album is Everything

I've been neglecting this blog like crazy, but I've been so busy with other things. My bad.

On January 28th, J Cole turned 31, and for it, he released a new album: Forest Hills Drive LIVE. Just the sound of it was music to my ears. You know how it is; you go see something live and then the album never sounds the same again because you'll be constantly be remembering the energy of the live version.

It's taken me a few days to get round to it but I finally bought it, and Oh My God - yes. It's like being back there. For anyone that went to the concert, this album is a must. Trust me on that.

I remember when the concert was coming up and I was looking forward to 'No Role Modelz' the most, and then it was everything I wanted it to be. I still have that song as my alarm tone on a morning so now that I have the live version, maybe it'll be the energy I need to get me up!

It's currently on iTunes for £8.99.

On top of the album, he also released a video for 'Love Yourz' - one of my favourite tracks on the album. Check it out below.

Black Actors Boycott the Oscars

It made it to morning TV today that several black celebrities are deciding to boycott the Oscars because of a lack of black nominations. Jada Pinkett Smith is among the names who have decided to boycott, with actor Idris Elba speaking out on the issue also.

On the surface, this seems bad. Why are there no black nominations when there are some great black actors that deserve recognition? However, if we dig a little deeper, you can see exactly why it's happened.

Good morning Britain had Baroness Oona King appear on their show this morning, who reminded viewers that you have to look at who is deciding on these nominations. The makeup is 94% of white people. Pretty big proportion. While she also agrees it's not right, she makes another point that people simply stick to people they know, people who are like them.

It's a strange thing to say, but let's face it, it's true. Why do interracial couples even need to be labelled an interracial couple? Why is there specialist dating sites for people who prefer other races, and romance books specifically aimed at those who like interracial relationships? It's simply because compared to 'the norm' it's different. It's still not common enough to constitute normality to the point we don't feel the need to mention it.

Even in friendship groups and people we associate with, more often than not we stick to the same race. Not always, there are exceptions, but this is the way it seems to go, at least where I'm from. It's not because we're racist or don't want to make friends or date someone of a different skin colour, it just happens. I don't know the science behind it, but it would account for why there aren't more interracial couples out there, for example.

Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee and Idris Elba are just some of the people who have spoken out on this issue and a few have decided to not attend this year in defiance. After all, Straight Outta Compton was one of the biggest movies of the last year, and this didn't even receive a nomination.

What surprised me, and made me realise this is an issue, was understanding what is happening. I thought the nominations were decided by voters or something. Then I realised there's an academy of people who decide on the nominees, not the voters themselves. Most of them are white, with a very small percentage black, and an even smaller percentage latino. Even more suprising is that barely any of those members are under 50 years old.

I do hope as the years go on that this changes dramatically. The academy should represent people from all walks of life.

Snoop Dogg Narrates Nature

What else do you need on a Monday morning other than Snoop Dogg narrating a nature show? Weird combination, right?

The sketch was aired on Jimmy Kimmel's show months ago, so I have no idea why it's suddenly circulating the internet and why I haven't seen it before but hey, better late than never right?

Just in case you haven't seen it either...

Fans are calling for the show to be made into a real nature documentary. While I think that would be pretty funny, I can't help but think of that family guy clip...

There's more videos over at YouTube if you want to see more of Snoop in action. Enjoy!

Shad Moss isn't a kisser

Shad Moss (AKA Bow Wow) really showed his lack of intelligence on this one. I can only hope that he was joking and I somehow missed the cue to laugh...

Last week, Shad posted a video to his Instagram asking his lady followers to be honest. If a man was to pull back from kissing when you're getting down to it, would it be a deal breaker? In the video Shad says "that contact, tongue on tongue, i ain't with all that. That shit nasty. See you might have something and I might catch it, so you don't mind if we can just get straight to the point?"

Er......PLEASE tell me it was a joke. Someone tell me right now that he was joking - comment below, send me an email...restore my faith in humanity. Guys, please don't be stupid. If you wouldn't KISS someone because they might have something, do not HAVE SEX with them anyway. Use your brain.

MUSIC VIDEO MONDAY: Huey ft. Trey Songz - No Makeup

2009, back when Trey Songz was still interesting to me. Huey, I don't know. I have a couple of his songs but I don't really know who he is. (Mental note: Google) Either way, this song is still good, even if the models do have makeup on in the video...

MUSIC VIDEO MONDAY: Ciara ft. Petey Pablo - Goodies

We all know and love Ciara as an artist now, but does everyone still remember her first single/video, Goodies?

It was 2009, so a good 6/7 years ago now. (Yeah, I know, I still think it was about 3 years ago.) I remember watching this video on the music channels and falling in love with her dancing and her body. Nothing's really changed to be honest, I still watch Ciara videos in awe of that body and vow every year that mine will look like hers. (says she who had a takeaway last night.)
